Manufacturing

A wide variety of industries make up our modern manufacturing base which is responsible for producing many of the goods we use.

Apprenticeships are a very popular way of gaining entry and lead to valuable qualifications.

Advanced Apprenticeships normally follow a three-year course to NVQ Level 3 or 4, from where people can continue their studies to degree level.

Graduate apprenticeships are available and full graduate entry is normal for many engineering and production jobs. Most companies provide training on the job.

Engineering

Engineering work is concerned with designing and making the machinery and products of everyday life.

There are many different routes into engineering, all of them involving a mixture of study and on-the-job training and experience.

Training as an engineer can begin straight from school with either academic or vocational qualifications.

By combining work and study as an apprentice, NVQ qualifications can be obtained which can lead to craft and technician jobs. Alternatively, working through school and university to degree level can open opportunities for graduate entry or a graduate apprenticeship.
